Meet the Toque Fairies

We have had a wonderful first few weeks meeting new customers.  We thought this would be the perfect opportunity for you to get to know the Toque Fairies.  We are both full time stay at home moms who like to crochet in our “free” time.

Meet Tanya:

My name is Tanya and I am currently on maternity leave with my second child.  I have two wonderful children, my son Owen is almost 3 and my daughter Miya is 8 months old.  I started crocheting when I was 12 years old - feels like forever ago, and for those of you who know me, that's not too far off! One day I decided that I wanted to learn to crochet, so I bought a book and taught myself.  When I was pregnant with my son Owen, I started to think about branching out my crochet skills from blankets to 'wearables'.  I thought hats would be a good place to start, so in 2008, I decided to try my hand at creating a hat pattern for Owen.  My first hat was an earflap hat - the style was easy to adapt for either a boy or a girl.  I got rave reviews, and requests for more started pouring in!
In December 2009, Karla and I decided to try our hand at the annual Christmas craft sale in Tuscany.  We entered again this past year, and I added the ‘infamous’ Sock Monkey toque to my collection - it is by far my best seller.

I truly enjoy creating a pattern from scratch and seeing how it turns out.  I hope you enjoy the end results too!

Meet Karla:

Hello, my name is Karla.  I have been crocheting for almost 6 years now.  Both of my grandmas are excellent crocheters.  Still, to this day, I have all of the crochet items that have been made especially for me from my grandmas.  I always knew that one day I was going to teach myself to crochet and use my grandmas for guidance/support.   My first project was to make an afghan for my first born daughter.  After that, I crocheted hats after my mom passed away from Cancer.  I was inspired to crochet 20 hats and donate them to the Cross Cancer Institute.  From that point on, I have been making hats for my daughters.  They constantly have a pile of hats to choose from.  My specialties include crochet hats as well as amigurumi.  My best seller at the craft sale is always my amigurumi dolls.  At first, I followed patterns.  However, with a lot of practice (I crochet pretty close to 365 days a year) I can now create patterns from ideas in my head or items that I see other people wearing.  Some of these items are featured on the Toque Fairies facebook page.  I love crocheting and am so excited to be a Toque Fairy!

Both toque fairies are well versed in crochet and make every effort to create high quality crochet items (with only our most favourite and softest of yarns).  We’re both very detailed oriented people and will pull out and re-crochet a product until it is perfect.  Stay tuned to our blog and facebook site for new products that are sure to please everyone.  In the meantime, check out our summer items posted on our facebook page.
